Calypso Key — Hole #14: Par 5

By • Updated: Apr 15th, 2018 • Category: Calypso Key

There’s an island out left, but it’s very narrow and difficult for most of us to hit.  If you can land it, it’s usually a driver in from there. There’s an island out right that is more reasonable, but even if you land it, you still have a tough approach shot you likely need to […]

Calypso Key — Hole #5: Par 4

By • Updated: Apr 15th, 2018 • Category: Calypso Key

From the left box, here’s a great 3-wood around the left side to a front pin. The newer tee boxes have a placement that puts you out farther left for a different approach over a different set of trees.

Safari Dunes — Hole #18: Par 4

By • Updated: Apr 15th, 2018 • Category: Safari Dunes

From the original tee boxes, with looks towards the front and right, you can often take a wood straight over the top to the green.  Here’s a 5-wood straight over the top for an ace to a front pin.  And here’s a 6-wood over the right side to a right-center pin. With some looks towards […]

Safari Dunes — Hole #16: Par 4

By • Updated: Apr 15th, 2018 • Category: Safari Dunes

From the original tee boxes, while not always driveable (although it is most of the time), some setups allow you to carry over the top to the green…here’s a high-teed 3-wood that goes 373 yards for the ace!  This high-teed 290 driver also had plenty of loft to carry to the hole. For some added […]

Safari Dunes — Hole #15: Par 5

By • Updated: Apr 15th, 2018 • Category: Safari Dunes

From the original tees, there’s a conveniently-placed sand trap straight ahead in the second fairway, but if you can land left or right of here while giving yourself a clear approach at the pin, then that’s ideal (and it’s always there, so this is the preferred approach). Another option with tough setups is to curve […]

Safari Dunes — Hole #13: Par 4

By • Updated: Apr 15th, 2018 • Category: Safari Dunes

From the original tee boxes, this is almost always drivable.  With a long setup from the back box, this driver got a nice bounce up to a back pin. From the newer tee boxes, you might be placed farther back where this par 4 truly is shut down and becomes a birdie hole instead.

Safari Dunes — Hole #11: Par 4/5

By • Updated: Apr 15th, 2018 • Category: Safari Dunes

As a par 5 during the first half of the release, there are several layup options here, but perhaps the best is to lay up short of the right sand trap in the fairway ahead.  From here, with most all setups, you’ll still have enough distance and a clear shot between those small trees into […]

Royal Dubai — Hole #16: Par 4

By • Updated: Apr 15th, 2018 • Category: Royal Dubai

The left box can provide a fairly straight shot at the green…this one took advantage to a center cup. From the back-center box, here’s a 5-wood curved around to a front pin. From the center box, this high-teed 9-wood is perfect over the top for the ace!  And this low-teed driver one-hopped into the hole.  […]

Royal Dubai — Hole #15: Par 5

By • Updated: Apr 15th, 2018 • Category: Royal Dubai

There’s often no harm in laying up straight ahead in the first fairway…you’ll have plenty of distance to get there. Even down to the next tier can present an open approach — this driver settles into a back pin. If you need to try to work the ball into a tough right pin, you can […]

Safari Dunes — Hole #12: Par 4

By • Updated: Apr 10th, 2018 • Category: Safari Dunes

With the correct wind, this hole can be driveable with an A1 high-teed driver, or perhaps even a 3-wood too.  From the front box, here’s the 310 driver that curves all the way around for a short eagle putt.  And from the back box, this high-teed 290 driver caught a small deflection off the hill […]

Mayfield — Hole #1: Par 4

By • Updated: Apr 10th, 2018 • Category: Mayfield

If you have some confidence with your chip or “chush” shots, go ahead and try to get close to this green with certain setups, as a chip can be there to give you a chance at an early eagle.  Check out this example from 1-minute in with the 6-wood! Here’s a hole-out to start the […]

Mayfield — Hole #5: Par 4

By • Updated: Apr 10th, 2018 • Category: Mayfield

You can often clear the water to the second fairway, but it’s not necessary to reach the green in two. From the newer front-left box, you can sometimes reach this green in one – here’s a nice ace!

Rattlesnake Ridge — Hole #15: Par 4

By • Updated: Apr 2nd, 2018 • Category: Rattlesnake Ridge

Some rare setups allow you to drive the green here — it can either be a high-teed driver A1 or C3 depending on the wind.  There’s not too much risk to try either as the only real trouble is the water on the right.  There are some bushes and things in the dirt short but […]

Mystic Hills — Hole #10: Par 4

By • Updated: Mar 30th, 2018 • Category: Mystic Hills

This is a tricky, yet sometimes drivable par 4.  It slopes away from you towards the water, so it typically discourages a high tee unless you can crank it into a headwind (you’ll want the backspin to hold the green).  However, the deep sand trap in front can be tough to clear and is punishing […]

Rattlesnake Ridge — Hole #6: Par 4

By • Updated: Mar 15th, 2018 • Category: Rattlesnake Ridge

There never seems to be a reason to have to curve around the right side of the hill — you should almost always be able to go right over the top. With a tailwind, just club down and carry to the downside of the hill with backspin to settle down onto the green.  From the […]

Rustic Bridge — Hole #16: Par 4

By • Updated: Mar 14th, 2018 • Category: Rustic Bridge

Even at 400 yards, this hole is usually drivable or very close to it, since it plays downhill.  Here’s an incredible shot off the tee for an ace!  Here’s another that finds the hole. Here’s a hole-out from the fairway after laying up.

Rhineland — Hole #1: Par 4

By • Updated: Mar 12th, 2018 • Category: Rhineland

This hole is rarely driveable, and in many conditions you can at least blast up close by the green for a chance at an early eagle chip.  From the front box, this drive took aim right at it for an early ace. From the middle box, this big A1 drive also finds the hole!
