Winding Pines — Hole #18: Par 4

By • Updated: Jul 27th, 2016 • Category: Winding Pines

This is a great finishing hole with all kinds of options, high and low.  You’ll need to read the situation to know what’s best to use with the various setups. With a left pin, you can go over the top with a headwind, or even around left with a right wind.  Other times it’s a […]

Hawthorne Manor — Hole #6: Par 4

By • Updated: Jul 27th, 2016 • Category: Hawthorne Manor

You have options left or right depending on your setup and wind here, so you’ll likely get a lot of practice either way. From the back box, here’s a 4-wood with backspin around the left side.  And here’s a well-placed driver with backspin around the right side. From the front box, here’s a creative driver […]

Elkhorn Ridge — Hole #8: Par 4

By • Updated: Jul 23rd, 2016 • Category: Elkhorn Ridge

From the back-middle box, this high-teed 7-wood cut around and over for the ace.  This high-teed 6-iron didn’t have enough to clear cleanly but still bounced forward, down and into the cup!  And this medium-teed 9-wood also didn’t clear cleanly but got the perfect bounces into the hole. From the left box, it’s nice to […]

Volcano Palms — Hole #8: Par 4

By • Updated: Jul 23rd, 2016 • Category: Volcano Palms

This is a very difficult eagle — you’ll have an offset awkward look, sometimes around the trees, into a horribly-shaped green…always go for it, because you can salvage birdie if you miss…just don’t go long in the water!  It’s usually anywhere between a 3-wood with backspin to a 5-wood, and a high tee is an […]

Whispering Valley — Hole #11: Par 4

By • Updated: Jul 23rd, 2016 • Category: Whispering Valley

This is a tricky little cut shot with not much room for error.  It’s easy to find the water if you’re too aggressive, but it’s also easy to find the tree leaves if you don’t start out far enough right off the tee. Here is an excellent ace from the front of the box.  This […]

Hawthorne Manor — Hole #11: Par 3

By • Updated: Jul 23rd, 2016 • Category: Hawthorne Manor

Short par 3s often leave you in between clubs, so use a tee and move around with a high/low tee to find your best approach.  There’s always something you can put close…just err towards the center of the green to avoid water and a bogey. Here’s a GW hole-out to a right-center pin. VIDEO DEMO

Hawthorne Manor — Hole #4: Par 5

By • Updated: Jul 23rd, 2016 • Category: Hawthorne Manor

The most common, and usually best, spot to be off the tee is over the water and over the sand trap on the right, landing in the rough just to the right of the middle sand trap.  You can always reach the green easily from here.  After a long drive, here’s a hole-out from there. […]

Hawthorne Manor — Hole #5: Par 4

This hole is often drivable from the middle box, either straight at it (high-teed driver hit hard will clear the trees) or with a big A1 shot.  Here’s a high-teed A1 drive blasted into a back pin! With a back pin, just lay up in the fairway for your approach. VIDEO DEMO

Antelope Pass — Hole #5: Par 4

By • Updated: Jul 18th, 2016 • Category: Antelope Pass

It is always possible to get this green, but it can be very difficult from the far left box.  You may need a full, perfect cut that barely misses the mountain on the way around. From the back-center box, it gets easier, and you can go high or low since a high-teed wood can cut […]

Whispering Valley — Hole #18: Par 4

By • Updated: Jul 18th, 2016 • Category: Whispering Valley

From the front box, this 7-wood falls just short of the leaves to bounce up and into a front cup.  And here’s an awesome 9-wood right over the top that finds the hole!
